20 ways to relieve stress

Stress management or Stress relief are one of the biggest things around at the moments and has been for quite a while now. In fact I would lay money down on the fact that you have no doubt looked into how to deal with stress sometime in your lifetime.

Well let me be here as your Zen Master for moment and provide you some stress relief. I will go through a few things I have picked up from a wonderful little book I came across a few years ago, in fact it was free, which is always a nice thing. tHe book is called "the little book of calm" and is authored by Paul Wilson. (its also published by penguin and although the copy I have is marked not for resale I'm sure you could find it on amazon or some other like minded site).

Now I'm not going to go through any stress tests with you or explain the symptoms of stress and effects of stress on the body because then I would probably start to bore you and more importantly I would most likely start to bore myself and thats not what this blog is about. So here are a few words to hep you start to feel relief and calm within your inner and hopefully your outer self.

From "The little book of calm" by Paul Wilson

Carry a piece of the Quiet
concentrate on silence. When it comes, dwell on what it sounds like. Then strive to carry the quiet with you wherever you go.

Waste some Time
Hard-working people never waste time on frivolous, fun-filled activities. Yet, for hard-working people, any time spent this way is far from wasted.

Select your company well
As harsh as it may sound, mixing with highly stressed people will make you feel stressed. On the other hand, mixing with calm people – even for the briefest period – will leave you feeling calm.

Be captivated by your breath
When you dwell on the sound of your breathing, when you can really hear it coming and going, peace will not be far behind.

Pause between changes
There’s always a temptation to lump all your life changes into one big masochistic event. Do your stress levels a favour and take on changes one at a time.

Invest in a fruit bowl
The more beautiful your fruit bowl, the better stocked it is, the less likely you are to turn to stress-enhancing snack foods. Eat more fruit and you will feel more relaxed – its as sweet as that.

Disregards small issues
The most important skill in staying calm is not to lose sleep over small issues. The second most important skill is to be able to view all issues as small issues.

Start ten minutes early
start every journey ten minutes early. Not only will you avoid the stress of haste, but if all goes well you’ll have ten minutes to relax before your next engagement.

Worry when the time comes
Most worries are future-based. They revolve around things that, in most cases, will never happen. Concentrate on the present and the future will take care of itself.

Sip a Peppermint
If you substitute a herbal tea such as peppermint for more stimulating drinks such as coffee and tea, your ability to be calm will be enhanced many times.

Admit you feel calm
If you want to trick your subconscious into helping you feel calm, simply repeat: ‘Every moment I feel calmer and calmer.’

Wear sensible shoes
Any reflexologist will tell you that true relaxation begins at the feet. It seems obvious, but wearing comfortable shoes is nearly as relaxing as wearing no shoes at all.

Seek the best in everything
Make the practice of looking for the best in people and situations. You’ll find that simple approach induces optimism and positivity – both of which lead to calm.

Brush or be brushed
take the time to brush someone’s hair. Better still brush your own – or have someone else do it. Slowly, methodically, extensively. (It massages several calming acupressure points, and the repetition works wonders.)

Pretend you’re human
Leave it to others to be perfect, to be wonderful. Be content with what you are – you’ll be much more relaxed as a result.

Start Christmas now
It probably took a lot of trial and error over the centuries, but Christmas carols and lullabies have a unique ability to sooth. Use them (silently) all ear round.

Single out simple pleasures
Approach something with your full attention and an open mind, an you’ll find pleasure and complexity in it. A bunch of grapes. Or a glass of water. Or a field of grass. Or a sky of clouds. All of such things can lead to calm.

Jettison the Past
There is seldom any rational reason for having regrets about past deeds or events. Because the past does not exist in any way other than in your memory. When you recognize this lack of reality, you can be calm.

Take Junior Lessons
Take a lesson in calmness from children. Watch how they live every moment for the pleasure of the moment. Pretend and you could be like that too.

Steal 30 Seconds
When you’re tense, go somewhere quiet – even the bathroom will do at a pinch – and take thirty seconds to gather your thoughts, and work out how you’re going to become calm. They could be the most useful thirty seconds in yo

And there you have "20 ways to relieve stress". Maybe in a future article I might cover definition of stress causes or stress free jobs as well to accompany this post. So hopefully you feel calm and relaxed and are on the way to a life of wonder and enjoyment with no stress. Well heres hoping anyway.

Bored of Big Brother?

So Big Brother is Back and....?

what?!?!? Its back and its as tragic as ever but is it as bad as watching paint dry or watching a car crash. Some people take joy from both of these and Big Brother generally has both in abundance. So what is it we love so much about it? Is it the constant (or so it seems) arguing amongst never before known idiots (for legal reasons I feel I must point out that not all of the housemates are idiots. I'm sure theres one out there somewhere in the world history of the reality TV show who is not an idiot), or the prospect that the bird with the big tit will get 'em out, or even that the odd strange couple craving fame and will do anything for it will have sex on the TV in front of the hypnotised nation, or is it something else.

I personally think its the worlds fear of missing out. No body ever wants to be the one left out of the conversation the next day when everyone in the canteen, at the bus stop, in the office, etc is talking about what Rachel did to Stephanie or how Alex shouted at that blind fella for no reason, etc, etc, etc. Its FEAR of missing these things and not being able to join the debate, FEAR of not being able to express your own opinion and FEAR of not having a thing to look forward to over the next few months that you can share with your friends and colleagues. But I say this, you are better for not having to have to watch what the latest goings on are in the world of Big "I want to be famous but dont stand a chance" Brother contestants. I have watched it for a couple of days in the hope that it would be entertaining and to give yet another chance but to no avail. Big Brother is failing to entertain me again and I am bored already. Its a shame because there is still many many weeks to go still. I am free as are you (hopefully) just like a smoker is free when he has no cigarette in his mouth pulling him into the world of nicotine addiction which is as bad as the junkie stuff used by the dossers of the world. you are free like a caged animal just released back into the wild, like a school child let loose for the summer holidays. you can say yes to party invitations and evening cinema showings knowing full well that you wont be itching to get back and see what has just happened to Mario, etc.

So my rant is over for today but do feel free to come back for others

Big Brother 9

New Big Brother Series

Big Brother 9 Eye

So the new Big Brother Series will be starting very soon and the nation is all set to be zombiefied. Or is it. Has the BB bug died down over the last few years. Who's gives a sh1t. In fairness I see it like this as most of you probably do. I will watch everyone coming into the house on the first night and decide there and then if the a bunch of tw4ts or if indeed there is anyone worth watching (OK I really mean to see if there is any fit birds going into the house!!). But really I do think that it has taken a battering in the ratings war (and no I cant be bothered to check out this meaningless statistic, I'm not a member of the statistic lovers organisation!) and I think good ol' Jade Goody and her rants are to blame, but I'm not gonna get tangled up in that mess, this is about the new BB9.

One major change this year sees the BBLB host Dermot O'Leary disappear and there shall be new presenters for Big Brothers Little Brother - George Lamb & Zezi. I'm sure we will all miss the sweet cheekiness of Dermot but life goes on and it seems its to go on with some zest judging by the new presenters.

George Lamb - New BBLB Presenter

Zezi Ifore - New BBLB Presenter

George Lamb himself comes with a fair bit of controversy behind him as a DJ presenter on Radio 6, although I'm not too sure just yet why whilst I looked into details on him. However whilst I was perusing I came across a few choice words regarding this little ol' Lamby. My favourite quotes regarding him: "One man’s Lamb, it seems, is an entire nation’s poison" & "it says 'The George Lamb Show (Radio 6)- more street than concrete!' So even I know he's a c#nt and I've never even listened to him." So as you can see the 1st half of this new partnership brings a fair bit of controversy already.

Then theres Zezi - full name Zezi Ifore - presently a presenter on E4 music show "Freshly Squeezed" and "Use a Condom" ambassador. Not much else to say about her other than seems to be as zany as she looks.

One thing that still remains constant although previous rumours would have had you believe she was off somewhere else is the lovable and devine Davina McCall - still sexy and ever present. One wonders whether she will be pregnant during this years BB as its been a while since we last had a pregnant host.

Some details and pics of the house:

There seems to be a fair amount of luxury to this house but at the same time it seems like its draped around the house in places that could be removed and replaced with alternatives like the lucious gold and marble bathroom. As he army camp bedroom depicts there may be a weeks challenge or a punishment for bad behaviour that the luxury will be taken away and they will be boot camping for a while. But the 2 staples of any BB house are the little swimming pool and the clothes mangle - which I have to say from the picture is starting to look a little run down. A paint job would have been an idea.
